West Marginal Way Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"“The Real West Marginal Way,” to quote the title of the late local poet Richard Hugo’s autobiography, is a place where shipping and heavy industry exist side by side with pieces of restored natural settings along the Duwamish River. The river itself, the original birthplace of Boeing airplanes and Kenworth trucks, was redredged and rerouted decades ago to provide a deeper and straighter passage for ocean-bound freighters.
In recent years, a walking and biking path has been added along West Marginal, along with a series of small parks that re-create pieces of the original Duwamish environment. Your walk starts with a downhill hike through a greenbelt, one of Seattle’s stretches of protected woodlands."
