Wallingford to Roosevelt Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Unlike the founders of Ballard and Fremont, John Wallingford wasn’t an industrialist. He was a real estate dealer. He and his fellow developers platted a streetcar suburb between Lake Union and Green Lake. It became a bedroom community with one of the strongest concentrations of Craftsman bungalows (early Seattle’s favorite home style).

Here, families drawn by Lake Union’s industry mingled with the University of Washington community. Later, Wallingford became a stronghold of aging hippies; you’re still more likely to spot a gray male ponytail here than anywhere in town. It now hosts an ever-changing array of small shops and cafés."
