Seward Park

Seward Park Professional Review and Guide

"The loop trail around the peninsula is bordered on one side by old-growth forest and on the other by Lake Washington, with views of South Seattle and Mercer Island. Special attractions: Old-growth forest, bird watching, nautical views, swimming beaches, picnic areas.

The basic walk consists of the 2.5-mile loop around Seward Park. When this route is completed, you can decide whether to extend the walk another 4 miles by following the lakeshore to Sayres Park and back for more nautical views and glimpses of the lifestyles and homes of lakefront residents. From the Seward Park entrance, walk past the children’s playground and a covered outdoor dining pavilion identified as Stove and Picnic Area No. 1. Continue on toward a paved path that runs along the shore of Lake Washington."

At the time that I went, with one child in a stroller, there was construction on the paved path. They were re-paving sections and parts were closed off, which meant pushing the stroller through the muddy grass alongside the trail. Not a huge deal, just something to be aware of. The views were simple, but pretty. It was nice to have one more place to walk during the winter months, and especially a trail that provided access for strollers.

Here is a large park in the city where you can enjoy just about any outdoor activity. There is a paved trail that follows the shoreline of this peninsula and many dirt paths that criss-cross the hill in the center of the peninsula. This Falcon trail guide outlines Seward Park and a paved path that connects to Sayres Park nearby. Great for kids, great for nature, and great for solitude.
