Mushrooming at Camp Long

Mushrooming at Camp Long Professional Review and Guide

"Wildly abundant Camp Long is a forager’s paradise because it provides a variety of habitats suitable for mushrooms. The park’s sixty-eight acres are part of the Longfellow Creek Greenbelt—an expansive wildlife corridor.

A former scout camp, Camp Long offers year-round nature classes on everything from mushroom identification and flying squirrels to making seaweed stationery and stargazing. This is the only city park where you can rent a log cabin for the night ($35 year-round). If you sleep over, you’ll be ready to start out early the next day, mushroom book in hand. Their bizarre looks match their funny-sounding names: puffballs and stinkhorns, cow’s noses and turkey tails, yellow parasols and shaggy manes."
