Murhut Falls

Murhut Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Murhut Falls, long a secret only known to locals along the east side of the Olympic Peninsula, cascades 153 feet in two sections down into a verdant gorge along the Duckabush River, culminating in a small pool festooned with fallen old- growth logs. Adventurers can wander into the pool at the base of the lower falls and cool off in the glacier- fed spray.

Hiking to Murhut Falls takes 15 to 20 minutes and is well worth the slight amount of elevation gain (175 feet) encountered. The trail, which is wide, even, and well- graded,
was refurbished in recent years by the Forest Service, making access to this gem of a woodland waterfall that much easier. Right from the trailhead, which is marked with a “Murhut Falls Trail” sign, hikers enter into another world dominated by big trees."

"Follow a short and easy trail to a beautiful 130-foot, two-tiered waterfall set in a tight ravine. Come in May and marvel at blooming Pacific rhododendrons along the way. Trail No. 828 starts by following an old logging road converted to trail. It was the logging in this area that led to the discovery of Murhut Falls, hidden in a narrow ravine. The upper waterfall drops more than 100 feet; the lower one crashes about 30. Save this hike for spring when snowmelt adds to the falls’ intensity and flowering rhododendrons line the trail." Beautiful short hike. Well maintained trail with a little up and down, but nothing too strenuous. The falls at trails end are very nice. As an added bonus at the falls overlook, there are several ways to climb down to the pool at the base of the falls. Makes for a cool refreshing treat for the feet, and a fun climb back up to the trail. Great kids' hike. Enjoy.
