Fryingpan Creek/Summerland Trailhead to Trailhead to Box Canyon via the Wonderland Trail Professional Review and Guide
"The Wonderland Trail across the east side of Mount Rainier may be the most superb of all. It includes the trip’s most abundant wildlife, its highest point, its starkest alpine landscapes, its most numerous waterfalls, two of its prettiest campsites, and, in my opinion, its single most beautiful viewpoint. So what’s not to love? Well, early in the season (and often all summer) long stretches of this section are buried under large snowfields, and navigating across them can be a challenge. There is also the concern that in bad weather several miles of the route remain at or above timberline, where you will be dangerously exposed to the cold and wind. But in good weather this rugged section is a hiker’s dream, offering a glorious abundance of all the attributes that you probably came to the Wonderland Trail to see."
