Fryingpan Creek/Summerland Trailhead to Cowlitz Divide and Box Canyon via the Eastside Trail

Seattle, Washington

Fryingpan Creek/Summerland Trailhead to Cowlitz Divide and Box Canyon via the Eastside Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Though not the scenic equivalent of the Wonderland Trail, the Eastside alternative is a very attractive route and is especially appealing early in the summer, when a significant part of the much higher Wonderland Trail is still buried under snow. It is also nice when it rains because the route is better protected by forest and less exposed to the weather than the Wonderland Trail. In addition, the waterfalls and old-growth forests that highlight this route are just as attractive under heavy cloud cover as they are in the sunshine. Finally, this somewhat longer alternative route is less popular than the Wonderland Trail, so it is easier to obtain a permit for the camps along the way."
