Elliott Bay

Elliott Bay Professional Review and Guide

"Shipyards with naval frigates or an Alaska ferry in dry dock create an engaging scene, one that is in constant motion and change. There are also routes deep under the waterfront’s piers and the opportunity to make a stop along Alaskan Way South for fish and chips. You are sure to find plenty if you like seaport cities.

A longer outing could be made by exploring south around Harbor Island and the Duwamish Waterway (see the Duwamish Waterway chapter), or around Magnolia and West Point to Shilshole Bay (see the West Point, Shilshole Bay, and Golden Gardens chapter)."

We have spent MANY hours on Lake Union and always have a great time! Living in the city it is very hard to feel like a true outdoorsman, but this is one place you can do it! Paddle around and enjoy the outdoors, but be sure to enjoy the sites of the city...
This is a great trail for beginners to try. The water only gets minimal waves when large speedboats pass by and hydroplanes landing or taking off. There are many sights that can be seen from the water like the Space Needle, The Clackamas soon to be museum/resteraunt, and the Duck (a boat car that can be rented and provides tours). So for beginners trying to get the rhythm of paddling together, this is the spot for you!
