East Capitol Hill

East Capitol Hill Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Seattle used to be promoted as having “seven hills,” just like Rome. We lost one of those to the Denny Regrade (Walk 7). Of the remaining slopes, only one is known simply as The Hill. It’s Capitol Hill, rising just east of downtown. For decades it was Seattle’s densest neighborhood, before all the Belltown and South Lake Union condo towers went up. It’s still a hearty mélange of artists, students, LGBTQ folks, families, and people of many subcultures and ethnicities.

Our next three walks traverse different portions of The Hill. This particular walk takes you to its summit and includes a regal cemetery, a palatial greenhouse, an Art Deco museum housing Asian art, some huge old mansions, and some solid old middle-class homes and apartments."
