Spectacle Lake

Spectacle Lake Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike is broken into two very different legs. The first leg takes you to a peaceful little lake called Pete. Mostly flat and heavily used by horsepackers and hikers alike, this is great for beginning backpackers or families with kids.

The second leg gains 1,300 feet (most of that in the last few miles) on its way to the secluded, glacier-polished shores of Spectacle Lake. This hiker-only lake offers excellent mountain views and is more than worth the additional exertion."

"A sprawling lake with myriad inlets and fi ngers of polished granite, Spectacle Lake is indeed a spectacle, especially when refl ecting the shiny granite turrets of Chikamin Peak and Lemah Mountain. En route pass Pete Lake, a popular watering hole, and also rushing Lemah Creek, groves of old growth, and a beautiful waterfall—all on good tread and at a gentle grade. Spectacle is popular, especially with Pacifi c Crest Trail hikers, so shoot for a quiet week in fall if you can." Read more

"One of the prettiest and largest alpine lakes in a wilderness area housing hundreds, Spectacle is aptly named. Its shoreline consists of numerous ?ngers of polished ledge sheltering placid inlets that re?ect Chikamin Peak and Lemah Mountain’s shiny granite turrets. While it’s a long journey, elevation gain is modest. Reach it in a day or spend a night en route at popular Pete Lake." Read more
