Marmot Lake

Marmot Lake Professional Review and Guide

"A long day hike or backpack to remote Marmot Lake. Marmot Lake is a remote lake lying about 3 miles north of Mount Daniel. Geographically, the lake is not all that remote; it lies only a few miles north of Mount Sawyer and would be easily accessible via Tonga Ridge Trail if there was a trail leading directly from Sawyer Pass. However, the trail to Marmot Lake begins from Deception Pass, which is about 5 miles in from the nearest trailhead, making this a long day hike best done as an overnight trip.

Just got back and the lake is beautiful! There are a few places along the trail that get a little tricky. There are 2 avalanche debris fields that you have to cross or go around and then picking up the trail can be a little tricky if you haven't ever been on the hike before. There are also several spots along the way that are getting so overgrown you can't see where you are stepping which is just more of a nuisance than anything. Overall it was a very nice trip and there are several side trips from the lake once you get up there.
