Horse Heaven Hills

Horse Heaven Hills Professional Review and Guide

"The long, rough ridge of the Horse Heaven Hills stretches for miles above the Yakima River Valley. The spiny ridge is a true desert treasure—barren of trees and scoured endlessly by winds sweeping in from the Columbia River Basin, the Horse Heaven Hills are nonetheless well named.

In years gone by, wild mustangs enjoyed the bounty of this rich desert ridgeline—the hills, lacking trees, shade, and water, sport a luxurious blanket of desert grasses and wildflowers on which horses love to graze. The wild horses are long gone, but the local population of mule deer still finds heaven in the rich hillside meadows, as do an assortment of birds and animals."
