Sherman Peak

Sherman Peak Professional Review and Guide

"From the highest pass in the state accessible by paved road, climb just under 3.5 miles to this rocky, prominent Kettle Crest peak in the Colville National Forest. Along the way you’ll pass through the eerie charred remains of forest burned by the 1988 White Mountain fire and witness the fascinating process of post-fire forest recovery.

South of Sherman Pass the Kettle Crest rises abruptly to a series of rugged and rocky summits—Sherman and Snow Peaks, Bald and White Mountains—that contrast markedly with the gentle, rolling uplands to the north. Here the granite and gneiss bedrock core of the Kettle Dome is fully exposed, and the Kettle Crest South Trail, although well designed and constructed, is more demanding than the North Trail, as it climbs rocky slopes up and around these rugged peaks."
