Wilderness Peak

Wilderness Peak Professional Review and Guide

"If your definition of wilderness includes remote wildlands untouched by the hands of man, this is a misnamed peak. But if you can accept that wilderness includes lands returned to a state of wildness, you’ll love this simple little Cougar Mountain hike in a natural wonderland that’s just minutes from an urban jungle.

Though the trail is usually hikeable year-round (snowfall is scarce at this elevation), the route is best enjoyed in the fall through spring because mosquitoes buzz here in great numbers during the summer."

Staying in Issaquah for a wedding and was looking for a nice, short hike close by. This trail fit the bill. It's a moderately steep, semi-loop trail through second-growth forest. It was a little foggy when we hiked it, but I suspect there aren't too many stunning views as you never leave the forest. Otherwise verdant and pretty without being spectacular. The trail connects with several other trails to make for a longer hike if desired.

nice and quiet but no real views. Good hike to do once when you just need to get out but nothing to make a destination of. It was fairly muddy in places.
