Cedar River Trail and Lake Wilderness Trail

Cedar River Trail and Lake Wilderness Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Beginning as a narrow path below the streets of Renton, the Cedar River Trail ascends to street level to head east toward Maple Valley and Landsburg Park. The final miles of rural, wooded pathway visit the Cedar River at its most dramatic.

A side trip to Lake Wilderness offers the chance for a waterfront picnic. Surface: Asphalt, ballast (some of it heavy), and dirt. Location: The cities of Renton and Maple Valley, along with Lake Wilderness, all in King County."

While the initial ride was comfortable and nice we found once we reached Maple Valley the trail was closed for construction, so took a small detour around it and found a nice little eatery with an excellent lunch. The trail was also under construction further down the road so we veered off onto the Lake Wilderness trail. Would like to do again when the construction is completed.

This is fine for what it is. I only jogged about an hour on it, so I haven't yet covered the whole thing. Parking near 405, and jogging from there west toward the water, it abruptly ended after about a half mile (though it had appeared on the map to go all the way to the water). So I turned back around and headed the other way. Going away from 405 (heading east) it is a nice, paved, shaded path for a couple of miles and then it cuts close to the highway, so it's kind of loud and not very peaceful. Flat. If you need a path to jog in the city, this works well esp. if you're meeting a running partner since it's so close to 405. I would never choose this as a place to take a great outdoor walk though as it's near the highway and noisy (at least the 3-mile stretch nearest 405).
