Many birders make their way to Ocean Shores and Westport for views of migrating shorebirds, but for those with an eye for less-crowded birding and the chance to see large congregations of Marbled Godwits and Willet, the quiet banks of Shoalwater Bay and the northern reaches of Willapa Bay at Tokeland are worthy destinations. Habitats: Saltwater marsh, sandy beach, rocky beach. Specialty birds: Common Loon; Brown Pelican; Peagic and Brandt’s Cormorant; Great Egret; Greater Scaup; Bald Eagle; Peregrine Falcon; Black-bellied Plover; Marbled and Bartailed Godwits; Ruddy and Black Turnstones; Red Knot; Baird’s Sandpiper; Heerman’s, Bonaparte’s, Mew, Thayer’s, and Western Gulls; Band-tailed Pigeon; Vaux’s Swift; Rufous Hummingbird; Hutton’s Vireo.
