Mount St Helens Area Loops Backpacking

Mount St. Helens Area Loops (Backpacking) Professional Review and Guide

"Mount St. Helens was once the prettiest mountain in the Pacific Northwest. Its almost perfect conical shape, glistening white glaciers, and deep-green surrounding forests made it strikingly attractive. That changed, of course, one Sunday morning in May 1980, when this volcano put on a demonstration of violence that will be remembered for generations to come.

The devastation left by that eruption is still amazing to behold even though trees, flowers, and shrubs are slowly replacing the wasteland of brown and gray. The mountain and its surroundings can no longer be called “pretty,” but the barren landscape is fascinating to observe."
