Silver Lakes

Silver Lakes Professional Review and Guide

"Cradled in a remote cirque on a lofty ridge, Silver Lakes see a fraction of the hikers that nearby Mount Townsend does. Reaching the lakes involves a challenging hike up and over a shoulder of Townsend. There is a shorter and somewhat easier “backdoor” approach, but the longer, preferable route travels a well-built trail loaded with views and seasonal wildflowers.

Before descending, look back east for a great view of Windy and Sink lakes directly below. To the west, enjoy a sweeping view of the Silver Creek valley. The lakes, however, are not visible. They’re hidden behind a small forested knob."

Good and steep up and down. Did it with HS kids as a gearcheck/endurance check for an upcoming longer backpack. It was foggy and cool that day so the mountains danced behind fog and mist. We'll go back late August as a reunion and see the full splendor. Absolutely great day trip.
