Mount Zion

Mount Zion Professional Review and Guide

"Hike to an isolated peak on the fringe of the Olympics to a series of ledges. Then look out upon a promised land of sweeping views from lofty Mount Townsend to glistening Puget Sound. Make a pilgrimage here in June and be rewarded with a resplendent kingdom of brilliantly blooming rhododendrons.

Start on the well-built Mount Zion Trail No. 836, first heading east and soon angling north. This trail and adjacent Sleepy Hollow Trail No. 852 are part of the Pacific Northwest Trail. As you steadily climb, steeply at times, pass through a dry forest dotted with salal and rhododendrons. Mount Zion ranks as one of the Olympics’ supreme rhody hikes."

Awesome trail!!! We will go back when the rhodies are in bloom. The views are fantastic. Our visit was in March and only saw four otehr hikers, but the trail looks like it gets a lot of visitors. The trail is steep in places but not terrible. A few spots to pull off the trial and have lunch/break. Took hubby and I with two dogs 1 hour 15 minutes to make to the top.
