Mount Walker

Mount Walker Professional Review and Guide

"Mt. Walker is the only peak facing Puget Sound that has a road to its summit. Once on its 2,804-foot summit, you will find broad vistas at the north and south viewpoints. The views stretch across the seawater-filled glacial valley called Hood Canal to Puget Sound, much of northwestern Washington, and to Canada.

The views also take in the Olympic Mountains, Mt. Baker, Mt. Rainier, and the cities of Seattle, Tacoma and Everett. Native Pacific rhododendron grows along the road and at both viewpoints, blooming in May and June. On a maintained gravel road that is suitable for 2WD vehicles."

Very easy drive to 2 nice overlooks. You can see Seattle a long ways off in the distance.

Great trail just off a main road. Perfect for getting in shape for the Olympics or Cascades. About 1/8 mile from the trailhead the switchbacks start and don't end until the summit. You need to be in at least somewhat decent shape. It is short and steep but the trail is in great condition. Parking is limited.
