Mildred Lakes

Mildred Lakes Professional Review and Guide

"An 8.8-mile round-trip wilderness route from FR 25 to the Mildred Lakes. This route is not a designed trail but rather a track worn into the mountains by the passage of countless hikers, many of them ambitious anglers. Prepare for a true
wilderness experience. It is extremely steep, and some climbing ability will be required at several points along the route.

Check the weather report before going; if there is a possibility of rain, choose another hike. This unstable trailbed becomes quite slippery in wet weather. Mountain goats also frequent the upper reaches of this trail, so hike cautiously. The trek begins in a second-growth stand of Douglas fir; the original forest was logged off."

Very steep trail with many switchbacks. Trail is in good condition with little, if any, windfall. There is a large amount of snowpack just before the lake, so be prepared. This is a fun trail, gives a great workout and provides some gorgeous views of the surrounding Olympic Mountains. However, do to the grade and elevation gain, it is not for beginners.
