Sol Duc Falls–Lover’s Lane Loop Professional Review and Guide
"Most people who visit Sol Duc Falls do so by walking the short, mostly level, 0.8-mile path from the huge parking area at the end of the paved road through Sol Duc Valley. But for the dedicated pedestrian, that is a rather unsatisfying jaunt that hardly seems worthy of even being called a hike.
After all, on such a short walk you never really get the chance to fully appreciate your natural surroundings, to change your mind-set from one of driving a car to one of self- propelled locomotion, or even to feel like you have really “earned” the destination at all. And besides, hiking is an activity that is at least as much about the journey itself as it is about the destination. It is much better, therefore, for both body and soul, to take this longer and infinitely more satisfying loop hike to the same destination. This way you enjoy more solitude; have the opportunity to see additional waterfalls, some lovely forests, and some good river views; and can more fully appreciate the wonders of this primeval environment."
