Lake Angeles

Lake Angeles Professional Review and Guide

"Occupying a glacial cirque below Klahhane Ridge, Lake Angeles is ringed on three sides by steep rocky walls. From high above, the 20-acre lake looks like a teardrop. But you’ll be quite happy upon reaching this pretty subalpine body of water fed by tumbling creeks of snowmelt.

The well-worn path immediately sets out climbing, paralleling Ennis Creek, before making a sharp turn east to cross the creek and head over to another drainage. You’ll steadily gain elevation on this hike, but the grade is never steep. The way traverses dark, thick forests—successional growth after a fire swept through here more than one hundred years ago.

Dogs are prohibited."

Brutal hike but rewarding. Just when the "up" never seems to end you are there. Beautiful Alpine lake! Beware I did run into a herd of mountain goats at the lake.
