Elwah Valley Restoration Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Admittedly, at first blush there isn’t much to see along this new trail except for a valley devastated by being underwater for nearly ninety years. Yet, that’s exactly why this trail is in this book. It’s a work in progress. Over the years, as the Elwah Valley recovers from having its dam removed—and with the able assistance of a coterie of scientists, land managers, Lower Elwah Klallam tribal members, citizens of Port Angeles, and many volunteers—what was once the bottom of a reservoir will become a natural valley once again.
There will be salmon in the Elwah River migrating up- canyon to spawn. There will be trees, and shrubs, and, yes, wildflowers. We all have an opportunity to witness this recovery. Come back to the Elwah Valley on a yearly basis. Bring your camera to document the change. And bring your flower books too. Because every year there will be something different to experience."
