Hiked on a clear and warm day in late summer, this proved to be a wonderfully scenic, diverse, and moderately challenging hike. The trailhead began at the end of Obstruction Pt. Road and meandered along a ridge for a little bit. Suddenly the easy going was replaced by a very steep descent down scree. The scree gave way to a gentler descent through meadows and before bottoming out and climbing through forests to Grand Lake. From grand lake were a series of challenging switchbacks and finally a traverse along a ridge with some spectacular scenery before descending a few hundred feet to the parking lot. This trail has a lot to offer and is a perfect day hike. Trail conditions are generally good. My only complaint is the number of mosquitoes at Grand Lake.
absolutely increadible views! Hiked it this summer and loved it - starts in the mountains with breathtaking views, and works its way down to Grand Lake with nice, quiet, wooded campsites. Some of the path is narrow and covered with shale and scree, so be careful and watch your footing. I was a beginner hiker carrying about 40lbs and managed to do fine with poles, but I wouldn't recommend this hike for those who are afraid of hights - some of those ledges are pretty steep!
Overnight hikers must register at the Wilderness Information Center in Port Angeles for camping in Grand Valley. Trail is 90% snow free. Patchy snow along the trail. The campsites at Moose and Grand lake are snow free.
