Silver Falls and Grove of the Patriarchs

Silver Falls and Grove of the Patriarchs Professional Review and Guide

"This is an excellent route for snowshoers looking for a quiet forest outing, without the need to struggle with a lot of climbing and routefinding. The trail is generally flat and wide, and it is low enough so that the snow doesn’t get so deep that the trail is ill-defined. The trail is so easy to follow that snowshoers can spend their time enjoying the views around them rather than looking for the path through the trees.

The route follows the gorgeous Ohanapecosh River upstream from Ohanapecosh Campground, slicing through lush old forests and passing the beautiful Silver Falls—made even more beautiful by the silver shards of ice that line the rocks around the cascade. The trail continues up the valley to a haunting stand of massive trees on a broad island in the middle of the Ohanapecosh River."
