Sand Point Trail

Sand Point Trail Professional Review and Guide

"An ocean campground reached after a short 3-mile walk promises crashing breakers, sandy beach, and old Makah petroglyphs on rock. Two trails depart from the Ozette Lake Campground. The preferred trail is Sand Point, which is shorter than the one to Cape Alava, and easier because it is all on boardwalk. The sandy beach is more attractive to kids than the cannonball-shaped rocks at Cape Alava.

Possible campsites are protected from wind by trees that shelter, shade, and frame beach views. If you wish, you can camp at Sand Point, continue up the beach past Indian petroglyphs to Cape Alava, camp again, and return to the trailhead, but Sand Point alone is a fine beach destination. Be aware that campsites are limited."

Great little hike/campout. I'm recovering from knee surgery. Needed a soft hike to start. Get a early start. Less people on the trail. Also make sure you have your insect repellent with you. Lots of bitting bugs!!!! You will need a Bear can.For your food/trash. You will need to carry it in your arms. Because your pack will be full by the time you pick it up. Enjoy.
