"Follow a lightly used trail over a rugged pass and descend into the Graves Creek valley. It’s then a steep climb to heather meadows, berry patches, and a beautiful sparkling lake tucked in an emerald basin at the edge of rugged Six Ridge. Hike east on the old spur, soon coming to a huge slide. As you walk across the slide, contemplate why clear-cut logging was ever permitted on such a high, steep slope—which consequently caused this ecological blemish on the mountainside. The Wynoochee Valley was geavily logged in the past; this trail once traveled for miles through some of the most magnificent ancient forests in the Olympics. Dogs are prohibited beyond the park boundary." Read more
