The directions to the trail were good except the Forest Service Road number has changed from 1704 to 1709. The road was two miles of loose gravel and we were wishing we had better suited tires for the terrain (we had road tires). There were a lot of cars going to and from the many riverfront campgrounds which we weren't really expecting to have to deal with.
We never did find the trail when the road ended and were disappointed in the lack of description in the guide posted here on how to exactly find it.
With that said the upside is this area is great for a camping/biking/hiking/wine tasting/rafting exersion. It's centrally located on Hwy 410 and 40 mins East to Yakima for wine tasting and 30 mins West to Chinook Pass with breathtaking views of Mt. Rainer and turnoff to go to Paradise at Rainer. There are also many, many hikes to choose from in this area (American Ridge Trail, Fifes Peak Trail etc).
