This long forested hike, up a closed road and steep trail to a small so-so lake, has no wow factor—except as in, “Wow that wasn’t an easy journey!” Then why go? you’ll get a good workout, certainly, and pretty old-growth forest along the ridge. It’s also an excellent choice for a rainy or cloudy day. You’ll probably have plenty of solitude here, which is a real commodity in this part of the gorge. And you’ll get to watch frolicking newts and fishing osprey too.
