Road 5510: Humpback Mountain Professional Review and Guide
"On a scale of one to ten, these views would only rate a three or four. If views are all that is wanted, drive the Hansen Creek Road another mile for views that would rate a five or six. But views are not always what one needs for an outdoor experience. There are three choices for walks, with the first being the shortest. Wanting to stretch my legs a bit, I drove I-90 to Exit 47.
However, with sixty-eight cars at the Pratt Lake trailhead and seventy-one cars at the Lake Annette trailhead, I went looking for a trail to get away from so many people. I can’t blame anyone for going to those lakes, for they are great destinations. I have boasted about these trails for years. But the parking lots prove my claim that there is a serious shortage of trails for the 290,000 day-hikers in our Cascade Mountains. Between lack of money, environmental laws, and the grizzly bear recovery zone, there is little hope of getting new trails in the next hundred years, thus the reason for this book: pointing out alternative roads-to-trails for hikers."
