Mount Teneriffe

Mount Teneriffe Professional Review and Guide

"Typically, a moderate grade is one of the key benefits of hiking an old, closed road. Unfortunately, loggers and miners sometimes ignored the good health of their vehicles in the interest of enjoying expedited travel times—in these cases, roads pitched steeply upward.

Mount Teneriffe sports one such truck-killing road. But a gradient that cripples trucks is a mere leg-stretcher for hikers. This road walk is not nearly as steep as the trail up adjacent Mount Si. And unlike Si, Teneriffe is only lightly used, so you stand a good chance of enjoying a solitary adventure on this Si sibling."

Great workout, mediocre trail. It's a very steep road with little variety. What saves this trail is the absolutely stunning views from the top....amazing! It's a long, great workout, but probably not worth a second trip.

I am not a big fan of hiking on old logging roads and I think there has to be a different route up than the guide book describes. The nice thing about this mtn is that it there are very few people on it. On a sunny Sat. morning I only saw three other people. I ran into snow at 2700 ft on the logging road. This logging road is steeper than most as the guide book mentions, but not the hike I had hoped for today. Probably a good hike with the family as they can spread out quite a bit across the road. I'm rating this hike as a 2 star hike because I just don't like hiking roads (its a preference thing I guess).
