McClellan Butte

McClellan Butte Professional Review and Guide

"Climb one of the most distinctive peaks along the I-90 corridor on this 10.0-mile summit hike.

The McClellan Butte Trail #1015 hits the grade almost immediately, quickly crossing the Iron Horse Trail and FR 9020 within the first mile. Relentlessly, the trail forges upward under branches of hemlock and cedar trees, through talus fields, and over streams of runoff. At the right time of year, as the snow recedes, wildflowers mob any open space between the rocks in avalanche chutes on the east face of the mountain. As you continue to gain elevation, you’ll slowly leave the trail improvements behind and be forced to negotiate the still rocky and root-gnarled route to the top."

Great out and back trail, nothing too challenging but it kept the heart rate up. You can scamper up to the final summit via the rock face pictured, but please understand, you will actually die if you fall so take it nice and slow please.
