Shoe Lake

Shoe Lake Professional Review and Guide

"Hike along the Pacific Crest Trail above a rocky cirque to alpine meadows bursting with blossoms. Then descend to Shoe Lake, socked away in a lofty basin. Goat Rocks views are wonderful. Mountain goat viewing is likely. And while camping is verboten at Shoe, it’s a great place to kick back for a picnic or nap.

A popular destination easily accessible from a major highway, Shoe Lake would be overrun if it was a shorter hike. Its shoreline, however, was heavily impacted by horses and campers, leading the Forest Service to ban camping here."
