Boulder Cave Trail

Boulder Cave Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Mother Nature sometimes provides unique treats for kids, and this is one of the best examples: a deep basalt gorge to explore, with a dark 200-foot-long cave/tunnel, so cold that on a hot day it feels like you’re stepping into a refrigerator.

The day we were there children from two families, ages three to twelve, were having fun listening to their echoes, exploring the tunnel, and throwing rocks into the pool. The last we saw of them they were happily investigating other caves. Boulder Cave is the official name, but since you can walk through it, you could easily call it a tunnel. Be sure your family has a flashlight or, better yet, two or three, because the inside of the cave/ tunnel is dark."

Great trip for the whole family. Took my kids and they had a blast just as I did when I was a kid. If possible go on a nice sunny day, the lush forest is the brightest and darkest of greens, gorgeous flowers and if you're lucky some wild strawberries to pick at. You must bring flash lights and bring as many as you can so that everyone in the group can have one. Bring a jacket too except for the hottest of days (and we have hot ones) as it can get cool in the cave. The Trip starts in a nice parking lot up a gradual and not demanding trail. Soon enough you start coming down and can spot the caves. The caves are nice and taken care of ..once in the cave you you can get off the path and roam a bit.
