Baker Lake

Baker Lake Professional Review and Guide

"This trail is just beautiful. If you take a camera, don’t use up your film too early, because it keeps getting better! Baker Lake is a good intermediate trail with many short ups and downs. Well maintained and well marked, this trail is not the usual “flat run along the lake.” Instead, it undulates continuously along the eastern shore.

Baker Lake is 10 miles long and nestled along Mount Baker’s east side at an elevation of 722 feet. The area features some of the largest fir and cedar stands in the Northwest. Baker Lake receives 120 inches of rainfall per year. The huge trees, various fungi, and long hanging mosses of the temperate rain forest add to the beauty of this trail."

Anderson Creek Bridge at the south end of Baker Lake Trail #710 was destroyed in the October 2003 flood. The Blum Creek Bridge was rendered useless as the channel of Blum Creek moved to the south side of the bridge after damaging the bridge. At least three other bridges along the center part of the trail near Silver Creek, Ermine Creek, and Mable Grove were also destroyed.

Good views for such a short hike, easy terrain make it that much more simple, good for a quick refreshing trip into the wild...during times that the dam is open down stream you can find all kinds of good stuff (especially fishing gear) down below where the water level usually is. And if you find enough....the trip just might pay for itself!
