Thunder Mountain Loop Trail

Thunder Mountain Loop Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This is a great loop into some of the loneliest country in northeastern Washington. Although you’ll hike 7 miles along the lofty Shedroof Divide, the views are limited. The solitude is what makes this trek. You’ll probably be alone, except for other four-legged critters. This is bear country and your buddy will pick up on that immediately.

There is an exceptional amount of bear sign in this area, so use caution and keep your furry friend close by. However, it’s not the bears that are the main concern on this hike. It’s the lack of water. It’s plentiful at both ends of the hike, but come late July this stretch along the Shedroof can be waterless. You’ll need to pack a few quarts for the two of you, especially if you plan on camping halfway, near the tempting slopes of Thunder Mountain."
