Salmo Loop-Little Snowy Top Trail

Salmo Loop-Little Snowy Top Trail Professional Review and Guide

"This is one of the finest wilderness hikes in eastern Washington (okay, technically northern Idaho, too). This 20-mile loop takes you deep into the Salmo-Priest Wilderness, the only federal wilderness area in northeastern Washington. Within these nearly 40,000 acres are some of the last roaming grounds in the Evergreen State for grizzly, mountain caribou, wolf, and wolverine.

The adjacent wildlands in Idaho (17,600 acres under consideration for federal wilderness) are also prime habitat for the aforementioned species. You’d be extremely fortunate to even catch a glimpse of one of these elusive creatures. What you will see along this hike though is rugged alpine scenery, incredible vistas of the surrounding Selkirk peaks, miles of wildflower-laden meadows, and one of the most impressive old-growth cedar forests this side of the Cascades."
