Mt Spokane State Park

Mt. Spokane State Park Professional Review and Guide

"One of Mt. Spokane's chief attractions is winter recreation. Mountain biking and a spectacular summit view are the main draws for visitors during the summer months. The park's cross-country ski trails are popular with beginning mountain bikers, while miles of unmapped singletrack trails delight more advanced riders.

A moderately difficult 3.6-mile loop that follows doubletracks and gravel roads in good condition. some intersections were unsigned at the time of this writing, but it looked like new signs ere being installed."

I hiked from the base of Mt. Spokane to the bald knob campground near the summit. I packed for an overnight stay (about 50lbs) and brought my sidekicks both american bulldogs. I took trail 120 about 4miles and 2k ft clime in elevation to trail 130 then followed that to 130b that took me right to the campground. The trails are very well marked and kept clean of most large debris. I would rate this a 4out of 5 for difficulty just becuase of the incline of some parts of the trails, you really get a good understanding that you are CLIMBING A MOUNTAIN! Keep inmind I am in average shape and a novice hiker so it might be easier for you. The deep old growth forest is so calming and keeps your hike pretty cool. Not too many animals, just a few deer. I would highly recommend this hike to everyone for a very challenging day hike (8m round trip) or a nice long overnighter (dont forget it gets cold at the peak I learned that the hard way...) The Negative. Communication to hikers/bikers/campers from the park staff if slim to zero. For instance the camping sites are closed at the summit but the only place this information is presented is a small red sign AT THE CAMPGROUND... now this does you no good if its 6pm and you just hiked 6miles to get there. also the construction zones that pop up and close entire sections of the driving road for hours at a time, this lack of information along with the burn bans, leash laws, closing hours, gates that lock, and parking sites that say "cars left overnight will be towed" which is unfortunate for those who camp during the night.... Seems sometime the parks have rules just so they can say "this is a park NOT the wilderness" still a good time had by all :)
