Heather and Maple Passes

Heather and Maple Passes Professional Review and Guide

"Rainy Pass is the entry point for a number of tours accessible from the North Cascades Highway. This area is far enough east to offer an alternative to west-side tours made risky due to bad weather.

Weak weather systems sometimes fail to penetrate as far east as Rainy Pass; often, skiers can make successful tours here while the Cascade Pass area is receiving rain. Difficulties: High avalanche potential."

Trail was clear with a slight dusting on top the passes. Temp was perfect with NO BUGS! Viewed a black bear above trail eating berries just before seeing Lake Ann. Views were good with some cloud cover on the peaks. Fall color is coming in big time.
