What a hike. Solitude, snow in August, dangerous creek crossing. Hiked north to Diablo. Fisher Creek was the highlignt for sure.

We hiked to Fisher Camp and then to Easy Pass from Junction Camp, along the Thunder Creek Trail. The wilderness ranger told us we would be the first people to Fisher Camp this year and wasn't sure we would be able to make it due to snow. The trail is quite strenuous, with steep inclines most of the way, numerous large trees across the trail and many stream crossings. The snow is melted however, and Fisher Camp offers spectacular mountain views with a flower-covered meadow and raging stream nearby. We stayed two nights at Fisher Camp by recommendation of the Ranger, which I would highly recommend. The extra day there was spent day-hiking (bring your lunch to eat on top of the Pass) to Easy Pass - another incline with numerous switchbacks, some covered by patches of snow. The Pass itself is covered in very deep snow and we could not go further (the trail continues downhill to route 20). Plan to eat lunch, throw snowballs, sit quietly and wait for deer and marmots to appear and enjoy the most spectacular views imaginable. The best tip on a clear day: wear sunblock! Our necks and ears were blistered from the intensity of the sun glaring off the snow at that altitude. Highly recommend this trail!
