Black Peak Professional Review and Guide
"Black Peak is an imposing and important landmark, situated between Mt. Arriva to the north and Corteo Peak to the south. Yet it represents a straightforward alpine ascent with characteristic features of this section of the Cascade Range. On Black Peak easy snowfield, talus, and moraine give way to a more complex rock scramble to the summit, yielding an impressive vantage of the myriad peaks of the North Cascades in every direction. An additional bonus is the hike along the Lake Ann-Maple Pass Trail, a lovely enough trip by itself. Nestled in a hollow in the basin southeast of the mountain, Wing Lake is also an enjoyable stop along the way to the summit block. Because Black Peak is one of Washington’s highest alpine climbs that you can do in a single day, this is a good trip for those times when you want to carry only a daypack."
