Road 1570-130 Sonny Boy Creek

Road 1570-130: Sonny Boy Creek Professional Review and Guide

"Once upon a time, not so very many years ago, this was a wonderful valley walk. There were big trees, make that huge trees, two roaring torrents, a narrow canyon, and an easy backpack hike. Over time, the truck bridge over Kindy Creek became unsafe and the road became a great footpath. However, rotten planking gave the Forest Service, who is susceptible to lawsuits, a reason to remove the bridge, leaving just one of the stringers in place. A steady person could walk the remaining stringer, but a fall to rocks or into the raging water would be serious. With the equipment the Forest Service used to remove the bridge, a hiker/bicycle bridge could have been put in place.

If the bridge is repaired, walk across Kindy Creek as it roars out of a narrow canyon. The road is being covered by alders, but otherwise the tread is good all the way to Sonny Boy Creek. For the Kindy Creek trail, walk some 300 to 400 feet from the site of the old bridge and take the first path to the right beyond the sandy bank. With a bit of searching, find the still-intact tread of the Kindy Creek trail and enter a grove of magnificent trees."
