Road 1520 Marble Creek

Road 1520: Marble Creek Professional Review and Guide

"In 1966, the Marble Creek road ended in a very impressive view looking straight up into the cirque of Marble Creek and the small glaciers between 8386-foot Tepeh Towers and 8868-foot Eldorado Peak. While taking a picture I contemplated how great it would be to climb that ridge line.

A few years later, my wife Pat and I did walk the thin, scary ridge leading to Eldorado Peak. On one side was a drop of 300 feet to a steep ice slope and the crevasse-covered Inspiration Glacier. On the other side we looked down 6000 feet into the deep hole of Marble Creek. About 1970, the road was abandoned and dropped from the USGS and Forest Service maps. I have always thought it would be great to turn the road into a trail. This roads-to-trails project was my first opportunity."
