Wapaloosie Mountain Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The finest meadows on the west slopes of the Kettle Range belong to Copper Mountain, but nearby Wapaloosie Mountain can lay claim to the best meadows on the east slope. Although the two peaks are separated by only one other summit along the Kettle crest, they are uniquely different. You’ll want to hike Wapaloosie for the early season blossoms.

As soon as the snow melts by midspring, arrowleaf balsamroot speckles the mountainside bright yellow. Arnica, yellow violets, and mountain dandelions pitch in. In due time the floral guard is changed; alpine lupine takes over to punctuate the soft greens and flaxen yellows of the sedges and grasses with various shades of violet. Trailing harebells make sure that the meadows get one more dose of purple before turning drab by late summer."
