Indian Island Professional Review and Guide
"Located less than two hours from Seattle, Indian and Marrowstone islands are a quick getaway with scenery and paddling opportunities rivaling those of the San Juan Islands to the north. Somewhat off the beaten path, the islands provide solitude with miles of seemingly untouched beaches, tidal estuaries, protected coves, and a rural landscape. The southern section of Indian Island is known for its sandy beaches, interesting geological features, and madronas that overhang the shore.
Swift currents run below the bridge connecting the island to the mainland, giving paddlers a free ride. The rest of the island is home to the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station, which is off-limits to the public. The naval base won a conservation award for management of its wildlands, and there’s little visual evidence of any base at all. There are three Cascadia Marine Trail sites on the island."
