Watmough Bay Trail

Watmough Bay Trail Professional Review and Guide

"An intimate, secluded cove on the southeast corner of Lopez Island offers views of Rosario Strait due east to radio towers on Mount Erie, and a gentle sand and gravel beach for swimmers. On either side of the bay are the steep rock cliffs of Watmough Head on the left and Chadwick Head on the right. The short forest trail is old second-growth woodland, maintained jointly by the Bureau of Land Management and the San Juan County Land Bank.

Children will enjoy the seclusion and beauty of this beach. Swimming is good when water is warmed after it returns over sand heated by the sun. Be certain to check the ferry schedule before you go, and remember that on sunny summer weekends, the wait for the ferry can be long. Reservations for camping on the island should be made well in advance for the best chance of getting a spot."
