Washburn Lake Road

Washburn Lake Road Professional Review and Guide

"Although this is a short drive, it will take you into beautiful, rolling sagebrush country. The views of the mountains and deep valleys of Okanogan County are outstanding. Easy, on a gravel-and-dirt road.

At the outset, if you look carefully along the base of the mountain, you’ll see the remains of an old wooden irrigation flume once used to water the area’s orchards. The road begins a steady and fairly steep climb immediately upon leaving Loomis-Oroville Road, providing views of rolling, rugged and almost desert-like hills. At mile 2.9 from Loomis-Oroville Road, Washburn Lake Road passes through a stand of large aspens, which blaze with golden hues in late summer or early autumn. By about mile 4 you’ll see small two-tracks branching off the main road. As the signposts indicate, they’ve been closed to motor vehicles since the BLM acquired thousands of acres around Washburn Lake in 1995. Obey the closures. At mile 4.7 the road ends in a parking and camping area just short of the small lake."
