Puyallup Cleaver

Puyallup Cleaver Professional Review and Guide

"The Puyallup Cleaver divides the Puyallup Glacier from the Tahoma Glacier. This route brings the skier high on the mountain with minimal glacier travel. Since NPS closed West Side Road, this area has become even more remote. Mountain goats frequent the area.

This is the classic high camp for summit attempts over the Tahoma Glacier. North of camp, there are unbroken portions of the Puyallup Glacier, which look appealing. Be advised that this ice body conceals huge crevasses. Much safer skiing is possible below 8,000 feet on both flanks of the Cleaver.

Difficulties: Moderate avalanche potential; glacier travel; routefinding required; bike ride; permit / fee area."
