Mima Loop

Mima Loop Professional Review and Guide

"This 13.9-mile singletrack route will be a satisfying outing for the intermediate cyclist, while the shorter version, which eliminates much of the climbing (but also much of the fun descents), will make a challenging ramble for the beginner. Mima Falls is not imposing, as are so many waterfalls in the region, and the water may not even be falling under extended dry conditions, but it's certainly a pretty rest stop and a nice sidelight to a very pleasant outing.

The trail passes through numerous clear-cuts but also through soft, fern- and salal-covered, Douglas fir woods. There are a few wheel-sucking, muddy sections and some loose, pebbly sections, but it is mostly firm, good-quality singletrack. This area of the forest is motorcycle-free."

I rated this trail as a 4 star trail more so for beginners than for intermediate riders. My fiance and I just returned and this was her first actual mountain bike trail. There was several places with a lot of mud, and it was raining, which I thought made the trail even more fun to ride. The only problem I could really find with it was all of the horse shit everywhere. Even so my fiance made it through the trail just fine with a few problems on the steep inclines, the hills kept coming on trail 10 which is the beginners cutoff. Overall this was a very fun ride. All together the trail took us for a 7 mile ride which was a wonderful start for a beginner. The views were awesome, and the scenery was amazing. We are looking forward to hitting this trail again in the near future.
The trails are in great shape. Nearly every book on the market and the information in this site is woefully out of date. The names of many of the primary access roads have been changed. Some loops are closed due to logging. Contact one of the Bike shops in Olympia and get an updated map. Visit one of the free trail sites on the web.
HORSES RUIN TRAILS!!! Out of an all day Trip we had maybe an hour of good trails. Most of the time Pushing the Bikes through the Mud!! The only reason I give it 2 stars is because the beer was good afterwards!!
